Dear Justice High School Parents, Students, and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that Ms. Maria Eck has been selected to serve as the Principal of Justice High School, effective July 23, 2018.

Ms. Eck most previously served as principal of Edgar Allan Poe Middle School where she has been a leader since 2014. Before coming to Poe Middle School she was the principal at McNair Elementary School. She has also served as an assistant principal at McNair Elementary and Glasgow Middle School. Prior to working with FCPS, Ms. Eck worked in the Miami-Dade County Public School System as an administrator, classroom teacher, and an ESOL teacher.

Ms. Eck is a proud Cuban-American and her bilingualism in English and Spanish and understanding of diverse communities has been an important part of her approach when working with students, parents, and community members. Ms. Eck has worked extensively in schools with high percentages of English Language Learners and has a proven track record of increasing student achievement. She understands the importance of diversity and embraces the cultural uniqueness of all those with whom she comes into contact. Equity is a something that she believes is essential in all schools, especially ones with diverse populations such as Justice, and she is committed to ensuring that all students can and will succeed. She also believes that being visible in the building and in the community is a key component in getting to know every student personally and understanding their unique interests and needs as well as engaging them in learning.

While working as an assistant principal at Glasgow Middle School and as the Intercession Coordinator at Glen Forest Elementary, she came to know, understand, and love the Justice community. Additionally, she has taught at the elementary level as well as worked as a teacher of English Language Learners prior to becoming an administrator. Ms. Eck has dedicated her career to working with students of all grade levels and backgrounds and firmly believes that all of our children can flourish and learn if given the opportunity and given the proper support.

Ms. Eck holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Florida International University. She has also attained a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She is currently finishing her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership at Virginia Tech.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Eck as the new principal for Justice High School!

Sincerely,

Fabio Zuluaga, Ed.D.
