Academic Advising
Our hope is that with the two Advisory Lessons that focused on the Career Key and Creating a Four-Year (or Three-Year or Two-Year or One-Year) Course Plan via Naviance Student as well as using the resources such as the JHS Courses SY25-26 Google Site (accessible to Staff/Students through their FCPS Google Email - Parents ask your student to show you the site) as well as the Online/PDF Course Catalog that students will be able to make a more informed decision on courses. We are also encouraging students to meet with their teacher to let the teacher know what the student is thinking about for next year and receive feedback regarding their current level of performance in the classroom.
We know that it's very difficult to make decisions when there is little to no preparation involved. We know that in the moment, when having to make a decision without knowing all the information that this causes anxiety and stress. We know that due to the anxiety and stress, any decisions made can be quickly forgotten.
Our hope is that students are taking advantage of these planning tools so that when they meet with their School Counselor, the conversation can be more meaningful to both parties. We are really wanting to students to focus on their strengths and interests as well as their overall mental/emotional well being in considering the course load in its entirety. Let's be prepared!

- Academies that require an essay for enrollment acceptance is due Friday, March 7, 2025 at 3pm
- There will be an opportunity after Spring Break to put in a request to change a course for next year. More information to come.

We would like to pre-load all courses into ParentVUE/StudentVUE before meetings with the School Counselor begins in order for the meetings to have more time to discuss courses and the overall course schedule versus having to spend time manually inputting each course into the system. Please help us out by completing this Course Selection Google Form!
